Hi everyone.
Usually i'm good with stuff like that, but this time i'm kinda stuck about making my CS:S server use sv_downloadurl. I think it requires passwords or i need to do something i don't know, because if i make a folder one way, it won't let me enter it in my browser, other way it lets me download the file trough my browser, but my gameserver doesn't reacting.

Sorry for such a question and thanks for answers.

Alrighty well I had this saved for when I get the new website up I was going to build up my tutorials section. So I went ahead and rushed the completion of it for ya so you could get your fast map stuff situated. The tutorial seems to cover everything from start to finish and I did read over it atleast once. Hope ya enjoy it! Angrygamings Fast Map Tutorial.

1. First, you need to get a website host that allows .bz2 files to be uploaded. For example: When you order a www.angrygaming.org server, they already configure their servers for the standard options a gaming team or community would need. This is what makes my hosting unique to others is that I, actually operate and own dedicated servers, have more then 12 years as a community leader and thus knew what I would need when configuring these boxes.

2. Next, you need to create a few folders. The first one is a cstrike folder inside of your website control panel. If you use FTP, then you can easily do that. Inside the cstrike folder, make a folder called maps. You may also create other folders in the main cstrike folder such as materials, models, sounds, etc.

  • I am going to be talking about making maps fast download and not the other ones. You can use the information here for reference for the other folders but for now, we will be talking about making maps into fast download. Now, inside the maps folder is where you want to place your .bz2 files. For reference, .bz2 files are files that hold maps for the Half-Life Source engines. For instance, you can take a map (download) from our repository (going up very soon) and inside the .rar file that you get when you download is a .bsp file.
  • You will need to download 7zip which is free and very useful to zip your BSP files to .bz2 format. Once installed simply open up 7zip file manager navigate to where your .bsp files are (you will want to do one map at a time) highlight one of the .bsp maps press add. New window will pop-up and you will want to select .bz2 under archive type. Thats all the options needed to be changed there. Repeat steps on all the custom maps you wish to use and offer via fast map downloading. http://download.cnet...4-10045185.html
  • You would then drag it into the maps folder inside your website FTP. After your map is done uploading onto your web host, you are almost done.

4. Lastly, you need to go to your server.cfg inside your server FTP or control panel (whichever you prefer) and enter the following commands somewhere in the file:

sv_downloadurl "http://www.YourWebHostURL.com/cstrike"
sv_allowdownload 1
sv_allowupload 1

You need to delete the "http://www.YourWebHostURL.com/cstrike" and replace it with your url. For example, my URL is "http://fastmaps.angrygaming.com/tf2" so I would put

sv_downloadurl "http://fastmaps.angrygaming.com/tf2"
sv_allowdownload 1
sv_allowupload 1

You must include your website URL then /cstrike at the end of it. Also make sure that the .bz2 map that you put into your website FTP is also in your server's maps folder. Save it and restart your server. Your server should now be running with Fast Download!

The purpose of this tutorial was to get traffic into your server. More gamers that go into public servers search for a Fast Download server. The downloads become a lot faster and do not give you an error such as "Missing Map" or "Disconnecting"

Some people are too lazy to learn the bz2 method as well as most standard hosting does not offer this and you have to do it yourself or ticket it. However this changes the download times from 2-3 minutes to literally a minute or less.

By the way, .bz2 files are not needed to keep in server's folder. Only bsp files are must to have.
